Our group needed a video and Khanh Tran seemed apprehensive to write the script or make the voice over for it so I volunteered and it came out.

The hand is one of the most complex and beautiful pieces of natural engineering in the human body.

At birth, the grip of your hand as a baby is strong enough to support your entire body weight. As you grow older the range of things you can do with your hand increases and becomes more precise. We go from closing our fingers around anything that grazes our palms to tying our shoes, styling our hair, holding our loved ones, answering our phones and so much more.

Our hands are powerful.

Google ATAP understands that deeply. Project Soli is a miniature radar that translates the different movements of your hands and body into touchless commands on your devices. The goal of Soli is to make relationships with technology more human.

However, most people already have established relationships with their technology. As with anything, learning how to use Soli will be a process. According to author Josh Kaufman, “going from knowing nothing to being pretty good at something, takes on average 20 hours, or the equivalent of 45 minutes a day for a month.” Based on research from Phillippa Lally, “it takes 66 days before a new behavior becomes automatic. And depending on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances, the length it takes a new habit to form can vary widely. In Lally's study, it took anywhere from 18 days to 254 days for people to form a new habit.”

At Alliance, our team’s goal is to make that transition as natural and engaging as possible. We want users to become aware of Soli, embrace their desire to learn Soli, and explore the capabilities of Soli at their own pace.

In order to achieve this frictionless experience, we will need to think outside of the tutorial concept and more towards creating a comfortable connection. Our award-winning team will create an engaging experience that allows our users to explore and connect with Soli by demonstrating the technology’s fullest potential.

We believe that with the proper introduction, Soli has the potential to be adopted by every type of user and integrated into every type of smart device on the market.  Through our collaborative effort, Alliance can help Soli make the movement of a finger, a hand, a body become the only interface we’ll ever need.
